My name is Bertalan Meskó. I’m a medical student at the University of Debrecen, Hungary (5th year of the 6). Here is my LinkedIn profile.
I plan to become a clinical geneticist specialized in personalized genomics. I believe that the future of medicine belongs to this field.
On this blog, my aim is to make medicine, genetics more readable even for those who are not too interested in them. That’s why I mostly write about genetic testing, personalized genetics, the most important news of clinical genetics and, of course, popular medicine.
I also work on the relationship between web 2.0 and medicine. I try to provide useful content; tools and services that could ease the work of physicians, medical students, nurses or medical librarians.
I have already given presentations at
- Yale University
- the hospital of Greenwich
- the Medicine Meets Virtual Reality conference in Long Beach (2008 January)
- at dozens of Hungarian clinics and departments.

I have a web site where a computer model of cell proliferation in living tissue is published (www.cell-division-program.com). The program was made by my colleague with the theoretical background of my old articles. It is a program that naturally could not be fitted in a scientific journal. Besides, I don’t work. (A note about me exists on Wiki, there is also my personal story at http://ca.geocities.com/uoftfraud/)
Now, I wonder if you could popularize this cell-division-program site. Since it is not in a journal, people don’t know it. I think it must be very interesting to your readers, as it is the first work explaining how the structures of the tissues are formed and how cells are replaced by new ones.

Thanks. Well, when I started my site, I did not really know about Wikipedia. I thought of just creating a reference site for myself at first. Now that Wikipedia is popular, my site seems redundant. I am hoping now that I can write more extensive articles and I am in the process of adding new features (such as animation and java applets, and protocols) that are not available in Wikipedia. Though Wikipedia is definitely better in many ways!

The latest thing I know that we are doing is preventive of thyroid cancer by gene prevention. ( high incidence of thyroid cancer)
But we do for years on BRCA1 and BRCA2, for breast cancer.
